Shadowplay’s “Visions” release show at Hebe Music, Mt. Holly, N.J.

One of my friends from college is in a rock band called Shadowplay from South Jersey. The band had its CD release show this past Friday at Hebe Music in Mt. Holly, N.J., and vox Andrew Corkery asked me to shoot the gig for them. Here are a few shots; the rest are in the Shadowplay set on my Brandi Lynn Design photostream on Flickr.

The Darkness, Foxy Shazam, Crown Jewel Defense, 9:30 Club, Washington D.C.

I recently saw The Darkness in Washington D.C., and I was following them along the east coast for its North American tour. Here are the photos from the Washington D.C. stop at 9:30 Club.

Last night of the east coast also called for waiting for the band outside the venue after the show. I got another lovely photograph with Justin!

The Deli Magazine: Rock and Read Festival review and photo recap, Bookspace, Philly

This past Saturday I covered the Rock and Read Festival, presented by The Deli Magazine and Cloud Entertainment, in order to benefit Rock to the Future, an after-school music education program for kids in low-income families. It was a lot of fun, with really great bands (Mischief Brew, Harry and the Potters, The New Motels, Monsterface, The Jawnettes and more), and as always, a bunch of cool finds in Bookspace.

Click the image and writeup below to see shots of all the bands. Under the image, I have posted additional photos that I took throughout the night.

Kyle “Slick” Johnson, in-studio photo shoot, Philly

My boss at The Deli Magazine – Philly asked me to shoot music producer Kyle “Slick” Johnson at his studio in Philadelphia for an upcoming contest. Mr. Johnson has produced albums for bands such as Modest Mouse, The Hives, Wavves, Rogue Wave, Gavin DeGraw and more. When my boss asked me to do this shoot, I was super stoked. Here are some more photos I took when I covered the Work Drugs, CSLSX and Wrestling gig at Johnny Brenda’s in Philly, for The Deli Magazine.

The Monkees’ 45th Anniversary Tour, Music Box, Borgata, Atlantic City

I was lucky enough to afford a ticket for The Monkees’ 45th Anniversary Tour. It was very important for me to go because they are essentially my childhood – I carried a Monkees lunchbox to school when I was in 1st grade, and it’s something I am very proud of. I took lots of pictures, so I am going to post a handful of my favorites here. More photos in a set on my flickr.

Summer afternoon outside with Nut

For some of you who don’t know what a Nut is, she is my pet bunny. I was home for a little, so I decided to bring her out since she’s been cooped up with my parents. I took a few photos, and they came out pretty cute.

Self-portraits..narcassism at its best

After work this afternoon, I decided to put on a playful, décolleté outfit and take some self-portrait shots in Rider University’s woods. I always wanted to do this because when I’m alone it gives me plenty of room to experiment and just be myself in front of the camera. Also, no one is ever willing to be a model, so I decided to be my own. I used a Nikon ML-L3 remote controller to snap from afar. Here are some more images:

Mundane rut; satisfying beauty

Before I go to bed, I always open my blinds so the light peeps in before I wake up. Tonight, I just stood there mesmerized by the way the orange security light hit the tree.

While I stood staring, I also felt a bit disgusted. Disgusted in how unnatural it was, disgusted in how I will soon be working three jobs to keep up with luxuries in life, and disgusted that I’ve been bound to the walls of Rider for the past three years because of so many commitments.

I wanted to capture this disgust and somehow turn it into something beautiful. I grabbed my Nikon, popped on my Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8, set it on shutter priority at a 1/2.5 shutter speed, and stabilized the body at an upward angle against my bureau. All the random objects in front of the window are silhouetted, and the tree pops, while the blinds create an ever-going vanishing point (at least in my mind, during the moment). It symbolizes a mundane rut, but going through the motions to produce the image was satisfying. Goodnight!

Rider University nature walk

I went for a photo walk around Rider University today so I could test out the camera connection kit for my iPad. After messing with a few photo editing apps, I found that Photogene is the best for a fairly small amount of cash. Don’t buy the cheap Filterstorm, it’s not worth it. One thing is that I wish Photogene could directly export to WordPress. I still have to fool around, but I am sure I will find something that works!

Anyway, here are some photos from the little walk I had this evening. They came out pretty cool.

Flower close-ups after rain

This summer I am stuck on campus because I need to make the extra cash, so I have a lot of free time. It rained today, and walking from building to building after the rain, I noticed how pretty the beads of water looked on various flowers, so I went back to my room and grabbed my camera and my Sigma 70-300mm f/1:4-5.6. All shots are manually focused, so it was a lot of fun to take them.

Rider University’s 2011 Commencement

As a favor to some close friends, I photographed Rider University’s 2011 Commencement. Hope you enjoy some of the cool shots I grabbed.

Tattoo documentary

To go along with the photos that I took below, here is my finished tattoo documentary. Many thanks to Chris Dudo, Thibaud Pagès, Jérôme Blanchard, Rob Mannanice, Rachel Gouk, and of course, my tattoo artist Chris James at Headlight Tattoo II in Deptford, N.J.

tattoos: the expression of our lives

Black and white tattoo stills

I asked a few friends from college to pose for some stills for a tattoo documentary I am making for a TV class. I used a key light in my dorm’s basement back alley, so the interviews look pretty cool. I shot their tattoos in the same area. It was a fun little shoot.

Planet Aid, Inc., Fairfield, N.J.

For my In-Depth reporting class, I took a trip up to Planet Aid, Inc. in Fairfield, N.J., and had the opportunity to speak with the Operations Manager, Robert Cruz. Planet Aid is a non-profit organization that collects clothing donations.

Gas drilling sites and affected families, Dimock, Pa.

For my In-Depth Reporting class, we took a four-hour trip up to Dimock, Pa., to meet with a local. He took us around the area to several drilling sites, and a few families’ homes. Below there are a few of my favorite shots of drilling sites, compressor stations, new rigs and families telling their stories – in particular, Craig Sautner.

Overall, it was one of the coolest and eye-opening experiences I ever had. More photos can be found at my Flickr page.

Bleachery, Yardley, Pa.

My In-Depth reporting class went to an old bleachery in Yardley, Pa., on Thursday, and I had the opportunity to grab some cool shots. My professor actually yelled at me because I went into the run-down building to take some pictures. A journalism prof yelling about pushing the limit? Hmph!

I had a great time exploring for these photos. More will be on my Flickr at www.flickr.com/photos/flameslicked. Hope you enjoy!

New Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8

Finally got a new lens. Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8. The deal with this it that I needed a wide angle lens that let in as much light as possible because my Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 was too limiting with press passes to concerts.

I actually bought this lens at the same time as the iPad 2, so I am broke! Here are a few fun shots right after I picked it up.

Twilight’s Peter Facinelli, Quakerbridge Mall

This past weekend, Rider University’s 107.7 The Bronc/WRRC-FM teamed up with the Community Blood Council of New Jersey, the New Jersey National Guard and the Quakerbridge Mall to host an exciting charity event with Twilight superstar, Peter Facinelli.

Over 2000 people swarmed the event, eagerly waiting in line to meet Dr. Cullen, to give blood or to walk along organizations’ tables. Peter Facinelli autographed paraphernalia and posed for photos, with a portion of the proceeds going to Alex’s Lemonade Stand. Facinelli also individually met with fans who held VIP Guest passes, for a little extra time to converse and receive gifts.

Here are a few more photos I took at the event. If you would like to check out more, you can head over to my Flickr at www.flickr.com/photos/flameslicked. The first four pages are filled with photos from the event.

Trans-Americas Trading Co.

For an In-Depth Reporting class, a few students, the professor and I had an excursion to the Trans-Americas Trading Co. in Clifton, N.J. I think this business is really awesome, and helpful to America and around the world. If it wasn’t for them bringing in clothes, sorting them and distributing them, it all would end up in a landfill. The clothes at Trans-Americas Trading Co. are sorted and shipped in bulk to bring down cost. My favorite section was the vintage-wear!

Here are some of my favourite photos that I took during this trip. A lot more can be found at my Flickr page.

Fitz & the Tantrums, Toy Soldiers, World Cafe Live, Philadelphia, PA

Fitz & the Tantrums headlined at World Cafe Live on Tuesday, January 18, 2011. I had a press pass and a guest list spot, thanks to Dangerbird Records. Below are a few photos I took at the gig. You can check out more photos of Fitz & the Tantrums and Toy Soldiers at my flickr page, here.

New York Jets Skyline, Empire State Building

I had the opportunity to photograph the NYC skyline while the Empire State Building was lighted green to support the New York Jets in its second round of the NFL playoffs. I tagged along with Joe Rey, at Jose Rey Photography, so be sure to check out his shots as well!

Washington Crossing Park

Canon G12 test run

Finally received my Canon G12. I love it. It’s a really solid point-and-shoot. I spent my Sunday and Monday playing around with it and experimenting with some settings and shots.

Most of the shots are just around the house, inside and out. Featured is my bunny, Nut. And the cardigan shot was a complete mistake from holding the button and chasing after my bunny, but I thought it was cool. Enjoy!

Rider University snow/photo-walk

Moon

This was a few days after the eclipse. I thought the clouds looked cool and spooky around the moon, so I ran outside to take a shot.
